There’s a new way to earn points at Tesco with their new “Clubcard Challenges”.

This new feature of the Tesco app uses AI to reward regular shopping tips with extra Clubcard points.

For six weeks, you can complete up to 10 challenges and earn a total of £50 of Clubcard points to spend in Tesco, or £100 if you use them with Reward Partners.

Let’s explain what this means for you and how you can get involved.

What are Tesco’s Clubcard Challenges?

Starting on 30 September 2024, Tesco will launch a six-week trial of its new Clubcard Challenges. (This is the second time the trial has been run).

This programme uses advanced AI technology to offer personalised challenges to shoppers.

These challenges are tailored to your shopping habits, meaning they could include purchasing items such as fresh fruit and coffee or trying out plant-based meals.

If you’re among the select Clubcard holders chosen for this trial, you could collect up to £50 in Clubcard points.

These points can be doubled with Tesco’s reward partners, giving you a potential £100 to spend on activities like a movie night at Cineworld or a day out at Thorpe Park.

How to take part in Clubcard Challenges

To get involved in Clubcard Challenges, check your email and the Tesco Grocery and Clubcard app.

If you’re eligible, you’ll receive an invitation and can start with the challenges through the app.

You will be given a mix of around 20 different challenges and can complete up to 10 of them.

This could mean spending a certain amount on specific product ranges (so balance out whether you need to spend more today to get more points tomorrow!)

Your offers will be personalised, meaning they are for things you would usually spend money on anyway, and they will likely be different from those of your next-door neighbour. So, for me, I’ve got fresh fruit, Whiskers cat food, and sandwich meal deals – which is great as they are products we buy regularly.

After completing a challenge, you will earn the extra Clubcard points.

You can earn a maximum of 5,000 points, or £50, which can be doubled with their partners to £100 worth of rewards.

As you know, the challenge will last over six weeks. You can pace out some of the challenges so you don’t overspend from one week to the next.

Not everyone will get an invite.

More than 20 million people have a Clubcard, making it one of the most popular loyalty cards in the country, but only 3 million will get the invite. However, they may expand it to more people if it runs well.

Even if you’re not participating in the challenges, you’ll continue to earn Clubcard points on your purchases as usual.

You can earn more by checking the Clubcard section on the Tesco app. Click Coupons on the card screen, and you can add extra point vouchers to your card.

If you’re a Sainsbury’s shopper instead, they’ve also launched a very similar promotion where you can earn up to 900 Nectar points in their Nectar Shop for Points Challenge. Again, it’s invite only.
